A Falsehood

“I’ll have you open a doorway. I’ll tell the quest party that the Edain-Ahr-thein attacked us and that coming here in the future is not advised. That should give you a good story to work with.”

“I thought we were seen in a vision talking several times,” replied Morgan.

Thomas frowned and nodded.

“We were seen that way, but returning here will be a death sentence. The timeline is now altered. Do your best, Prince Stormbringer, to find the Source of Fire. From here on out, the visions are no longer true,” he replied.

“My abandonment, in the end, may not happen?” asked the dual-class.

“The quest visions are all bundled together. Should one not happen, then the others are in jeopardy. Though this turn in events is the Queen’s doing and not yours. Morgan, King Illuvanar may soon show hostility to your kingdom. There's been a vision of his death, and your people are implicated in the company of Eldon Darkstar when he dies. I tell you this only because you’re a Prince, and the Dwarven rules permit that,” answered the Seeker.

“Since you can talk to me of the future events, what visions should I be aware of?” asked Morgan.

“There will be a time when you can save the life of Jin Mai Nari, but you choose not to. Her death has grave consequences for the group. It was a fragment vision, and the details of your decision are unknown. It's also a reason for the hatred you received from the Queen. Morgan, after tonight the rest of the visions may or may not happen. This event was not foreseen; neither was the Isle of Sorrow or even Firefly. These events were either blocked by the Source of Fire, or you're all already on a radically different timeline. Fuck the visions, and be the best Prince you can be,” counseled Thomas Lightmaker.

Morgan let out a deep breath. The Scout nodded and opened the doorway to the rock laid X near the campsite. Jin looked at them both and instantly saw that they had been in combat.

“Cy-Cryst!” she yelled out.

By the tone of her voice, he realized it was bad. The Ah-Nok jumped up and ran to the shimmering doorway. Behind him were Kayle and Sarah. They ran up and saw Morgan with his arm around the Seeker's shoulder. His pants were ripped and bloodied. The Seeker was also cut and bruised, with a sheet of blood streaming down his face.

All saw Eldon’s sword Lightner in the Scout's hand.

“The Edain-ahr-thein ambushed us with some sort of doorway magic. If not for the heroics of this man, we both would have died,” stated the Seeker.

“How? That type of magic doesn’t exist!” replied a shocked Jin.

“It does after tonight,” lied the Seeker. “No more doorways; it’s not safe anymore. Be on guard lest they find you too,” he admonished.

“Has the war started?” asked Cy-Cryst.

“No, but all the switchback villages have been evacuated for the first time ever. War will start soon, Marshal,” replied the man

Jin stepped halfway into the doorway to help with the Scout.
